Measures To Be Taken By A Pregnant Woman

Being pregnant is a beautiful experience as they say it is a magical time for the mother and the child. Yet magic never happens on own, there should be someone to create it. In this case it is created by the mother. A pregnant woman needs to know her present condition and should take care of herself as it is not only a question of her life but a question of an unborn child. She should be more logical than emotional during this stage. Every step should be taken care of and when the delivery time comes near arrangements should be made before hand regarding the midwife and the place of birth.

So let us take a look at the essential factors for a pregnant woman.

Body Mass Index (BMI)
The body mass index of the pregnant woman is more important than any other factor because only a healthy mother can deliver a child with no or less problems. The more obese a mother is the more complications during delivery. It has been found that more than 60% of women are obese. So if a pregnant woman seeks a healthy delivery she should take care of her body mass index with strict measures.

Nutrition
Your body needs essential proper nutrition to maintain a healthy body and if you are pregnant this information should be sculpted in your brain because it is not only you who requires nutrition but your child too. There are generally two types of nutrition micro and macro nutrition. Keeping this in mind always see to it that you supplement yourself with proper nutrition.

Prenatal vitamins- As the name goes, it is clearly understood that it is meant for the child. A prenatal vitamin supplement helps in supplementing the pregnant woman automatically taking care of unborn child.

Magnesium and calcium – These two minerals are essential for the development of the baby and the pregnant lady too. If there is deficiency of these two minerals while the baby starts to form bones and teeth, the deficiency will be compensated by taking from the mother resulting in weakness of the mother herself. Dull hair and bone cavities in mother can be explained by the above condition. And if there is surplus amount of calcium a condition known as preeclampsia can be prevented during late pregnancy. And another advantage of surplus amount of the minerals is that leg cramps can be avoided which is found commonly in pregnant women.

Pregnant ladies should keep a watch on what they are eating. It would be better to avoid junk foods totally. Although junk foods are harmless in small quantity but when consumed on a long term might cause health problems affecting the mother and the baby. And if the pregnant woman is a smoker she should completely quit smoking during her pregnancy period i.e. until the child is delivered as smoking might cause the same effect to child that would cause to the smoker.
